All former employees of Nortel companies in Canada owe it to themselves as well as their former colleagues to join the NRPC, the only organisation solely dedicated to the protection of your future benefits. If you are an ex-employee, a pensioner, a surviving spouse of a Nortel Canada employee, or a friend, relative, or Power of Attorney assisting such a former employee or survivor, you should join the NRPC as a voting Member in order to protect your current and future income now that Nortel is operating under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA). There is strength in numbers, with more NRPC members, our voice has more impact.
On 14 January, 2009, Nortel Networks initiated financial restructuring under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) in Canada and has sold off most of its business units.
Nortel immediately stopped paying severance, transition allowances, and deferred wages to former employees and retirees, throwing the lives of many people into great turmoil.
The Nortel Canada pension funds are seriously underfunded.
On 1 October, 2010, responsibility for the Nortel pension plans was turned over to the Financial Services Commission of Ontario who hired the firm of Morneau Sheppell to administer the plans and wind them up.
Retiree medical benefits, life insurance and long term disability payments ceased on Dec 31, 2010.
In December 2010, NRPC got Ontario Government agreement to pursue alternatives to Wind-Up by Annuity. Plan to have a recommended supplier in 2012.
Who We Are? The NRPC is a volunteer run, not-for-profit Corporation devoted to protecting the interests of former employees of Nortel in Canada. Our priorities are to ensure that former employees get the best possible deal as their promised benefits disappear. We pursue your rights in the CCAA process through our legal representatives, Koskie Minsky LLP, and are seeking urgent action from governments to protect our rights as citizens and as Nortel creditors. The NRPC has achieved some successes so far including funding of the PGBF by the Ontario Government, favourable tax rulings on foreign service, $3K payment against lost severance, alternative medical and life insurance recommendations, and agreement from the Ontario Government to allow alternatives to winding up the pension fund by purchasing annuities. Much remains to be done.
Membership Fees: As a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers, we depend on the financial support of our members to cover expenses related to court representation, demonstrations, advertising, postage, insurance, website maintenance, transportation and so on. The NRPC is asking members to renew their membership for 2013 at their earliest possible convenience. The 2013 membership renewal fee is $20. Those who joined on or after October 1, 2012, will be considered to have paid their 2013 membership renewal.
If your 2013 Membership renewal is not received by March 31, 2013, your membership in the NRPC will lapse until renewed. Lapsed members lose their membership privileges including: voting at the annual AGM, access to the Members-Only section of the website, and receipt of updates and newsletters through email and Canada Post.
How to join the NRPC: all former employees and surviving spouses, who belong to the negotiated or non-negotiated pension plans, or have been their severance payment, are welcome to join the NRPC. As well, if you are a friend, relative, or power of attorney for such a former employee or survivor, you are also welcome to join.
To become a Member, you will need to provide your contact information and pay your annual Membership Fee. You only need to register your contact information once but Membership Fees are due annually.

How to Renew Your Membership Fee: After October 1st of the current year, you can renew your Membership for the following year by logging in and then clicking on My Subscriptions in the User Menu at the bottom of the page. Then click the Upgrade/Renew button.
How to make a Donation: For instructions, click here and then select Make a Donation. After reading the instructions, you can make a donation by going to "About NRPC" and clicking on the drop-down menu called "Donate".
