If
you have a deferred Nortel pension, you should have recently
received an early April mailing on Koskie Minisky letterhead from your three court
representatives; Don Sproule, David Archibald and Mike Campbell. They
pushed for this update letter because the majority of 5400 deferred
pensioners have had no contact with the bankruptcy process since
Nortel declared CCAA protection.
In
the letter shown below in the Latest News section, we also encouraged you all to become NRPC members.
The
values of NPRC membership include:
-
Bimonthly newsletter:
NRPC membership will put you on the mailing list for regular updates
from the NRPC. N.B., we have committees that engage regularly with
Koskie Minsky, Morneau Shepell, Ernst and Young and our Nortel G-LIF
provider. The regular newsletter will update you on what to expect.
-
Strength in numbers:
The NPRC membership is some 8500 strong, comprised mostly of
pensioners. The size of our membership has clout with the federal
and provincial politicans. Adding a strong deferred membership will
increase our political clout
-
Vote on the Board of Directors slate: as
member you get to vote on BoD slate.
The
NRPC and the court reps are already working on the behalf of deferred
pensioners. Your letter spells out some of the successes we've
already achieved for deferred pensioners including application of the
PBGF, reductions in taxation on pension payout, and the development
of a Nortel group fund that will be superior over the purchase of
annuities. We continue to work at both levels of government to
improve the deferred situation.
We
will continue to work on your behalf. It is important and motivating
to us that you appreciate our efforts by becoming NRPC members today.
To cut down our processing workload, we encourage you to become
members on-line (using Paypal) by clicking the link below.

After you register, you will have the choice to pay using PayPal or through the mail.
Thanks

Can you help us find some former Nortel employees whose mailing addresses have changed? The Monitor has had trouble reaching these employees so they may be missing important information. See the list under the "Help / Info" tab in the article called Help Us Find Missing Former Employees .

The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) has approved the wind-up of the Nortel Defined Contribution Pension Plans (this is not the Defined Benefit Plans). Those former Nortel employees who participated in the Defined Contribution plans will be receiving a communication about the wind-up from Sun Life in April.

If you are a friend, relative, or Power of Attorney helping a former Nortel employee, you can now join the NRPC as a full member. Recognizing that many former employees depend on the support of others to manage through the complex issues related to the Nortel insolvency, the NRPC has modified its bylaws to allow people assisting specified former employees to also become NRPC members. Such "assistants" will then have access to the newsletters and other timely information about actions and decision points going forward. To join, go to "Join or Renew" or click "Register" at the top of the page.
